Why Should You Donate to the Museum?

1. ROCKY FLATS IS HISTORY! The buildings are gone and memories are fading fast. Save the stories and artifacts on all aspects of this interesting site.

2. CREATE EXHIBITS! We're developing ideas and plans now.

3. MAINTAIN AN ARCHIVE: Keep information about radioactive contamination at and near the former nuclear weapons production facility.

4. UNCOVER THE SECRETS: This government operated the plant with high security in secret for years from 1952.

5. EXPLORE THE COLD WAR ROLE: Rocky Flats produced the fissionable core ("pit") for every weapon in the U.S. nuclear arsenal for the Cold War betweenthe two Superpowers, the U.S. and Russia. The cores are still in use!

6. PROVIDE SCIENCE EDUCATION: Help children learn about the atom and its parts, the periodic table and the explosive power of radioactive materials. Many occur naturally in Colorado.

7. SHARE WILDLIFE & ECOLOGY INFORMATION: Help educate the public about the animals and plants at the new Rocky Flats National Wildlife Refuge.

8. ESTABLISH A HERITAGE TOURISM SITE: There are scientific and technical research facilities from Golden to Rocky Flats to Boulder on Highway 93 which could jointly market to tourists to follow the 'Technology Trail'.

Other Ways to Help the Museum

Citizens with a knowledge and/or interest in the legacy of the Cold War and Rocky Flats are encouraged to become involved in all aspects of our work, whether it be attending Board meetings or working with our committees. Additionally, there are two specific ways you can help.

1) Apply to become a museum Board Member*

*Applicants should be knowledgeable about Rocky Flats history and heritage, and willing to work with others holding diverse perspectives on that history. Applications are particularly sought from individuals with non-profit and museum management, and fundraising experience. Applicants should be willing to devote 6-8 hours monthly to related board and committee meetings. Applicants should be willing to disclose any potential conflicts of interest created by their service on the board.

2) Submit an oral history form** (form will be added soon)

** Aging and retirement of the Rocky Flats work force means that the stories of plant workers are disappearing with each passing day. The RFCWM seeks to address this problem by initiating a scholarly oral history and video project to document the stories of current and former plant workers. The project will include interviews with non-plant workers and people from surrounding communities, including community activists who opposed the plant's operations and educated the public about environmental issues on site.

Until the online form is added, please send us an email explaining you interest.

3) Display an exhibit about the Museum in your place of business/public building

The Cold War Museum Board has created a series of eight display boards that offer an overview of the proposed Museum project. These boards are 24" x 48" and are designed to be displayed in a public area for community information. If you are interested in displaying the boards in your building, please contact us .
